Meet Justin Byrd & Byrd Custom Blades

Some knives tell the story of a factory. Others tell the story of the person who made them.

This week's campfire dispatch introduces one of our favorite local makers, Georgia bladesmith Justin Byrd of Byrd Custom Blades. Working out of Madison County, Justin builds fixed blades the traditional way—small batches, careful heat treatment, hand grinding, and hand sharpening—with every knife tested before it leaves his shop.

We're also taking a closer look at Bear's current favorite from the lineup: the Field Scalpel. Lightweight, comfortable to carry, and built to earn its place through use, it perfectly captures the philosophy that first drew us to Justin's work.
